Since more than 30 years the Berliner Symphoniker are one of the most important symphony orchestras in Berlin. Famous conductors and chief conductors guaranteed the high quality of the concerts. Since 1997 Lior Shambadal is chief conductor of the Berliner Symphoniker and keeps up this tradition.

The Berliner Symphoniker are particularly renowned for their series of performances of classical concerts in the Philharmonic Hall and the Concert Hall in Berlin.

Since their foundation in 1966 the orchestra tours regularly very successful in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Great Britain. Special highlights of these touring activities were the performances during the International Musik Festival of Turkey, Egypt and Lucerne/ Switzerland followed by remarkable concerts through all important cities of the United States of America and Brazil.

In 2001 the Berliner Symphoniker were invited to play again in Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy and Great Britain. These appearances received both critical and public acclaim. In autumn 2001 the Berliner Symphoniker went on tour to South America and had very successful concerts in Argentina, Brasil, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela. Another highlight of the touring activities were the concerts in Japan 2002.

Worldwide many recordings of the Berliner Symphoniker are available.

  • The Berlin Philharmonic Hall, designed by Hans Scharoun, opened on October 15th, 1963 with a concert by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan. About 270 concerts take place here each year in the main auditorium which seats 2,440. The Chamber Music Hall plays host to 240 concerts a year which range from small orchestral formations and chamber music groups to recitals. Over the years the world famous names have graced this stage; Wilhelm Furtwangler, Sergio Celibidache and Herbert von Karajan to name but a few.
