Information on Vienna Boys' Choir

Founded more than five hundred years ago, the Vienna Boys’ Choir is probably the world’s most famous boys’ choir. When Emperor Maximilian I decreed in 1498 that there were to be six boys among his court musicians, he unwittingly laid the foundations for the Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys' Choir). Today, more than 500 years later, the choir continues to sing Sunday services in the Imperial Chapel.

The Vienna Boys’ Choir sings during a Roman Catholic Mass in the Hofburg Chapel (Mass is celebrated in German).

Please note that communion is not distributed in some parts of the chapel. Please inform the usher if you wish to receive communion and you will be directed to a suitable area. Patrons are requested to take their seats by 8.50am.

Photography, filming or tape recordings are not permitted during Mass.
